SFPD Runner's Up for SPUR Mayor's Excellence in Management Awards

Today Mayor Newsom and SPUR, (San Francisco Planning and Urban Research),  recognized Violence Prevention Liaisons Lieutenant Jim Miller of Gang Task Force, Lieutenant Carl Fabbri of the Violence Response Teams and Sergeant Quoc Do of the Muni Response Team for outstanding management efforts.

All three have done a tremendous job at managing our violence efforts on the streets, in Public Housing and on Muni.  San Francisco is a safer City due to their thoughtful maneuvering of response resources in areas of predictable violence.

Supervisor-Elect Malia Cohen, San Francisco POA and Firefighters Local 798 come together to help local non-profit

SAN FRANCISCO –Supervisor-elect Malia Cohen is wasting no time in delivering for her constituents.

The San Francisco Brown Bombers, a non-profit serving youth 5 to 15 years old, organized tackle Football, Cheerleading & Competitive Dance teams who were invited to participate in a national competition in Florida. Unfortunately, they lacked the resources to attend. When Supervisor-elect Cohen heard they needed assistance she turned to two organizations committed to serving all San Franciscans – San Francisco’s Police Officers and Firefighters.

Phoenix Firefighter Suicides Spurs Changes

Los Angeles Mayor Proposes Pension Changes for New Police, Firefighters

From Bloomberg.com, October 18 LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa proposed overhauling pensions for new police officers and firefighters, part of a broader effort to contain costs amid growing budget deficits statewide. The plan would save Los Angeles, the second-largest U.S. city after New York, $173 million for every 1,000 new police officers and firefighters hired over 30 years, according to an Oct. 15 report released by the city.

Nick Birco Killer Guilty of Murder One

The fleeing robbery suspect who smashed his stolen auto into the radio car driven by Officer Nick-Tomasito Birco on July 26, 2006 has been convicted of First-Degree Murder. Officer Birco was responding to the area of the felony evasion when the collision occurred. He subsequently died from the traumatic injuries he sustained in the crash.
