San Francisco cops reach into own wallets to help homeless family

San Francisco police officers reached into their own wallets to help a homeless family of seven. It's a story about good Samaritans in uniform you'll see only on ABC7 News.

It was a wet and windy Friday night in San Francisco. Joel Silva, his wife and their five children had no place to go.

"I was late for the shelter I was staying at," Silva said. "At that point we had no place to stay, you know."

Training 3/24-3/25: The International Association of Women Police (IAWP)

Te International Association of Women Police (IAWP) is hosting a regional training in Vegas on March 24th and 25th at the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino titled "Surviving and Thriving in Law Enforcement".  The training will include classes on human trafficking, crime scene investigation, career advancement, leadership, and officer safety/survival, and is open to all law enforcement members, both men and women.

There are currently one thousand four hundred (1400) retired members of the San Francisco Police Officers’ Association.

The privilege of being a retired member of the POA only costs the member $25.00 annually, and is the best deal in Town.

Remaining connected to our union as a retired member after normally spending two or three or four decades as a San Francisco police officer is beneficial in so many ways:
