Wanted parolee nabbed in Mission Street parking lot

SANTA CRUZ -- Police on Friday tracked down an armed parolee and reported gang member wanted on drug charges, a few days after serving a search warrant at his Escalona Drive home and arresting nine people.

Police got a tip that Christopher Page, 32, might be with his girlfriend in a black Acura Integra, and they spotted the car in the parking lot of a store on Mission Street, Lt. Bernie Escalante said.  

Investigators set up a surveillance about 5:30 p.m. and Page and his girlfriend walked out about an hour later, Escalante said.

KCBS: SFPD Chief George Gascon Sworn In As District Attorney

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) — In his final act as mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom swore in police Chief George Gascon as the new district attorney in a special ceremony held on the mayor’s balcony inside City Hall Sunday.

Newsom, who will take his place as lieutenant governor Monday, admitted that the appointment came “extraordinarily quick” during his search for a candidate to replace Kamala Harris, who is now attorney general of California.

As he carefully narrowed down the candidates to about six people, Newsom sought counsel from Gascon on Saturday.

KTVU News: San Francisco Police Chief Named District Attorney

SAN FRANCISCO -- Police Chief George Gascon was sworn in Sunday as San Francisco's new district attorney in what Mayor Gavin Newsom called his final mayoral act.

Gascon took the oath of office Sunday afternoon in a hastily called City Hall ceremony the day before Newsom is set to become California's lieutenant governor.

Newsom said he asked Gascon on Saturday afternoon if he would take the post. Gascon said he had not sought out the job but could not turn down the opportunity. He replaces Kamala Harris, who is now California's attorney general.

For the fourth year in a row, members of the San Francisco Police Department and Police Officers Association gathered with many other people at the San Francisco National Cemetery in the Presidio on Saturday, December 11, 2010 to honor and pay respect to United States Military members who gave their lives for their country.

On Friday, December 17, 2010, Mayor Newsom and SPUR, (San Francisco Planning and Urban Research), recognized Violence Prevention Liaisons Lieutenant Jim Miller of Gang Task Force, Lieutenant Carl Fabbri of the Violence Response Teams, and Sergeant Quoc Do of the Muni Response Team for outstanding management efforts.

All three have done a tremendous job at managing our violence efforts on the streets, in public housing and on Muni. San Francisco is a safer city due to their thoughtful maneuvering of response resources in areas of predictable violence.

Raffle/Fundraiser Benefits Frankie Shouldice

On December 16, 2010, a crowd of supporters and well-wishers gathered at the Paragon Restaurant to show support for 12-year old Frankie Shouldice and his family. Frankie is the son of SFPD Inspector Ronan Shouldice, and he is valiantly battling leukemia. The money that was raised -- $17,000 – will be used to help defray the medical expenses incurred by his devoted family.

Medal of Valor Awards Ceremony

On Wednesday, December 15, 2010 the San Francisco Police Department presented several members of our department and association with Medals of Valor for actions taken above and beyond the normal call of duty in various critical incidents. The ceremony was held at the Mission Bay Conference Center of UCSF and was well attended by members of the SFPD Command Staff, fellow officers, and the public, and, of course, by family members and friends of those being honored.
