Supervisor-Elect Malia Cohen, San Francisco POA and Firefighters Local 798 come together to help local non-profit

December 2, 2010

SAN FRANCISCO –Supervisor-elect Malia Cohen is wasting no time in delivering for her constituents.

The San Francisco Brown Bombers, a non-profit serving youth 5 to 15 years old, organized tackle Football, Cheerleading & Competitive Dance teams who were invited to participate in a national competition in Florida. Unfortunately, they lacked the resources to attend. When Supervisor-elect Cohen heard they needed assistance she turned to two organizations committed to serving all San Franciscans – San Francisco’s Police Officers and Firefighters.

“The Brown Bombers are an example of the community’s commitment to providing opportunities for young people”, said Supervisor-elect Cohen. “It was simply a no brainer to bring people together to support the kids and I want to thank the POA and Local 798 for their quick reaction and generous contribution”.

Gary Delagnes, President of the POA and Tom O’Connor, President of Firefighters Union Local 798 committed $7,500 to send the kids to Florida to participate in the national competition and represent San Francisco. “This was an easy decision and we appreciate Supervisor-elect Cohen bringing this to our attention”, said Delagnes. “We’re glad to play a role in helping the kids, and all they have to do now is bring home a title for San Francisco”.

The Brown Bombers have been serving the community for twelve years and have been providing high quality programming for youth in San Francisco. The San Francisco Brown Bombers are dedicated to providing San Francisco's youth with a football and cheer program that is organized, supervised, safe and fun. Their goal is to teach the fundamentals of football and cheer, while stressing the importance of academic achievement in an environment conducive to learning and sharing. They work to instill the values of teamwork, pride, discipline, leadership and good sportsmanship in all of our participants.
