Confidence…

By an overwhelming vote of 1,126 to 256 (81%), our membership extended its Memorandum of Understanding (contract) through the year 2015. The membership raised its collective voice and once again moved to “do the right thing.” Along with wage increases (which were due after a previous vote to defer raises one year), the security of knowing that our contract will stay in tact in its present form is very reassuring.

Here we go…

In a recent article on ‘S F Gate” dated Tuesday, March 15, 2011 our old “friend” and “esteemed” former Police Commissioner Peter Keane weighed in on Public Defender Jeff Adachi’s latest war on cops; accusing a group of plain clothes officers and trying them in the press and in the court of public opinion of some very serious allegations of misconduct related to their criminal investigations. Mr. Keane, a man who has never passed up an opportunity to go on a cop-bashing spree, is true to form in this article.

Service…
I have often believed that our members’ dedication and service to the citizens of San Francisco is second to none. This belief has been fostered through our members constant involvement in the many voluntary activities throughout the city that have benefited those less fortunate than us, including the elderly, the very young, those who are sick or infirm, and many who could use some assistance and encouragement along the way.

Where should one really begin with a conversation about police suicide? How does one approach a subject that for far too long has been regarded as “taboo” within the police community? How does one cope with the reality that within the past year our department has suffered the loss of three members (2 active and one recently retired) due to suicide and the attempted suicide by another two members? It should be noted that all incidents referred to above included the use of a handgun during the acts or attempted acts.

The O.C.C, better known as the Organization to Conspire against Cops, is at it again. In a shameless effort to boost its dismal numbers, the OCC and its leadership has decided to investigate a case of alleged police misconduct against a few of our members even though the complainant passed away last August. The incident in question occurred July 22, 2009 and the complaint was filed on July 24, 2009. So it's eleven months later and the OCC is just now getting around to interviewing the officers. The Organization to Conspire against Cops didn't even know that their "client" had passed on.
