Public invited to meetings on police chief search

February 10, 2011

Residents of San Francisco's west side will have a chance to talk about the qualities they want to see in a new police chief during a special meeting at 6 p.m. today at the United Irish Cultural Center, 2700 45th Ave.

The two-hour meeting is one of three events the Police Commission will hold in various parts of the city. A second meeting is scheduled for next Thursday at the Southeast Community Facility, 1800 Oakdale Ave., and the third is set for Feb. 24 at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market St. All meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

The commission will interview candidates to replace former Police Chief George Gascón, who resigned last month to become the city's district attorney. Commission members hope to present Mayor Ed Lee with three candidates for the job by mid-March.
