The Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) is up for review

April 27, 2011

The Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) is up for review by the members of the SF Board of Supervisors. The Board will be looking at an actuarial report to decide whether/not the DROP Program is cost efficient. While the initial actuarial data is not encouraging we believe that a very good case can be made to continue the program.

The finding from this review may not be announced until late May, 2011. I will be attending all meetings in this regard and will make every effort to convince the Board of Supervisors that we need this option (i.e. DROP) to make sure that we have a sufficient number of personnel to protect the citizens of San Francisco.

If you are eligible for the DROP Program (Minimum qualification: 50 years of age and 25 years of service) and want to participate, you need to respond to the SF Retirement System (30 VanNess Avenue) as soon as possible! (You can always cancel the retirement date you selected if the program is continued.)

I will keep you informed on all updates.
