…Thank You:

The Campaign against proposition B is in full swing. I would like to thank all those who have volunteered to walk precincts, work phone banks and address groups. A special thank you goes out to the miscellaneous City employees who have volunteered to go on “lost time” and work fulltime on the campaign. Now that is commitment!!!...Think of them every time you look at your paycheck because they are the front line that is fighting to protect that check while losing retirement time…

…Hole-in-One!

Received a clipping from the Marin Independent Journal Thanks Mike Koppel) dated Thursday September 9, 2010 which announces that retired Deputy Chief Vic Macia hit a hole-in-one on the 137-yard sixth hole at Marin Country club with a 7 iron. Congratulations!!!

…Information Sought:

A study of the Traffic Company is being conducted and one statistical comparison being sought is a comparison study of the total number of motorcycle officers assigned in the years 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2009. The later one is easy but the others are a bit more difficult to research. Does anyone out there have some old watch sheets? Any former Planning and Research statisticians out there with old records or a good memory who can help? If you can help with any information please e-mail Sgt. Kyle Ching @ kyle.ching@sfgov.org...

…Rest in Peace:

On Saturday September 25th, 2010 a large group of us gathered to celebrate the Life of Louise Wright who worked at the POA for 28 years. Louise is survived by her husband of 57 years retired Sgt. Gale Wright and children Bruce, Michael and Nancy. During her years at the POA she was one of the foundations of our organization typing and re-typing all the articles that appeared in the Notebook and Journal before the advent of the computer and afterwards for those contributors that feared the new technology. Louise was a true lady who always brightened your day and always had the best interest of all at heart. She once shared with me the secret on how she handled phone calls from members. After referring 3 calls to me on one particular day I quizzed her as to why. She lifted her blotter displaying her list of those she knew would best handle the member problems. Some were Officers and Directors but many were not. With a promise to keep her secret I never questioned anyone as to how they had obtained my contact information because I knew that Louise had vetted the situation. Rest in Peace Louise and Thank You for being you...

…Lots of Studies:

As a Police Department we’ve been studied by consultants, grand juries and a variety of legal beagles. Recently at a Retirement Board Retreat I had the opportunity to hear UC Berkeley School of Business Professor Charlan Nemeth present case studies about a program called “mirroring” that she conducts for corporations utilizing PhD candidates. As I listened I couldn’t help but wonder if this program would (could) have helped us prevent incidents such as the recent Crime Lab situation and the hijacking of the City computer system. I don’t have an answer for that but I hope some of our City Leaders take a look at “mirroring” because in my humble opinion we need it…
