Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As I complete my first month serving as your POA President, I want to take a moment to update you on the work I’ve been doing on your behalf and the direction I intend to continue taking us. This has been a busy and important first month, and I am proud to represent such a dedicated membership.
One of my priorities has been strengthening our relationships with city leadership. I’ve met personally with the Mayor, members of the Board of Supervisors, and the Police Commission. These conversations have been more than just introductions — they are the beginning of ongoing relationships where I can directly advocate for our officers and ensure our concerns are understood at the highest levels. It is important that these leaders see us not as headlines or statistics, but as men and women who serve this city with dedication and sacrifice.
In addition, I’ve met with the Department of Human Resources to outline my vision for our next contract. I’ve made it clear that our priorities must focus on fair compensation, improved working conditions, and recognition of the very real mental and physical demands of our profession. Early discussions are critical, and I intend to keep the pressure on as we move forward with negotiations.
I’ve also been working to ensure that our story is told to the public in an honest and accurate way. Through interviews with the news media, I’ve highlighted how challenging this profession truly is — the toll it takes, not only physically but also mentally. The public needs to hear this directly, and I will continue to make sure that our officers’ experiences and sacrifices are not overlooked or minimized.
At the same time, I’ve been reaching out beyond city government to corporate and community leaders. Our profession depends on strong public support, and by building partnerships in the business community, we can ensure that more people understand and value the work we do every single day. These relationships can open doors for resources, opportunities, and stronger backing when we need it most.
Perhaps most importantly, I’ve made it a point to stay connected with the heart and soul of our department — patrol. I’ve been visiting stations across the city to listen, to learn, and to stay grounded in the realities of your day-to-day work. You are the foundation of this department, and I want to make sure that your voices are never lost in the shuffle of politics, policy, or negotiations.
This first month has been about building momentum, setting the tone, and making it clear that your POA is engaged, vocal, and ready to stand up for you. I am committed to being present, transparent, and tireless in this role. The challenges we face are real, but I believe that together we can meet them with strength, unity, and determination.
Thank you for your trust, your service, and your resilience. I am honored to represent you, and I look forward to continuing this work with all of you in the months ahead.
