Action Needed: SFPOA Member Feedback

To Active Members
From: Martin Halloran
Part of the current contract negotiations includes a "sunset" clause regarding accumulated SP buyout. This means that the current SP buyout agreement will no longer exist. The POA will be proposing a different SP buyout clause but the City will most likely reject it. The result of this could be a substantial loss of compensation at separation. To give you a perspective, a Q4 step 7 who has accumulated 1040 hours of SP at retirement would be able to cash out 75% of that total upon separation which equals 780 hours. At today's salary rate that would be approximately $46,800 per member.
If you were confronted with remaining in the department for an additional 1 or 2 years and giving up the SP buyout or taking the SP buyout and leaving early which would you choose? Stay or go?
